The Earth Free-Floats in Space
BY PATRICK SHABI
Throughout humanity’s existence, people have always tried to explain the Earth and to make sense of how it and the things around it operated. Hindu mythology stated the world was on the back of eight elephants, which then lie on the back of a giant turtle. In Greek mythology, it was Atlas, the son of Titan Iapetus and the Oceanid Clymene, who was known as “the Titan who held the world [or sky] upon his shoulders.” Even in ancient Norse mythology (dating back to 790-1100 B.C) we see a similar concept where four dwarves (Austri, Vestri, Sudri, and Nordr) supported the four corners of the Earth.
All of this mythology comes from before or during the time in which the Bible was written. These examples make it clear that during this time the prevailing thoughts of the people was that gods were supporting the Earth they lived on. So one would expect to see a similar concept outlined in the Bible that God held up the Earth. However, we see the exact opposite mentioned which has now been proven by modern day science. “He stretches out the north over empty (nothing) space; He hangs the earth on nothing (Job 26:7).” Job wrote about this awesome scientific principle three thousand years ago. Contrary to the thinking of the time, his language describes the circumstance of our Earth, and how it is being held in place as proof of the divine power of God with scientific accuracy.
